About the Programme
Science, Technology, and International Relations (STIR) is the newest programme within the School of Conflict and Security Studies at the Institute. The programme looks at Science Diplomacy and the intersection of S&T and IR as a niche area. It also looks at Climate Change, Maritime, SDGs, New Frontiers, and Area Studies. Besides, the programme follows contemporary global politics with a special emphasis on the world order and global governance.

The Programme has four major components – research, publications, policy interventions, and dialogues/networks. The Programme tries to be holistic, comprehensive, and multi-disciplinary. The PhD scholars associated with the programme work on the Arctic, Himalayas, Outer Space, Technology and Cyberspace. Other focus areas are Blue Economy, AI, Gender, and Peace and Conflict.

The programme has a Science Diplomacy lecture series that brings S&T experts and young IR scholars on the same platform. It also organises “Global Politics Young Voices” (GPYV) discussions every Monday, as a capacity-building initiative to develop young scholars’ presentation, research, analytical and writing skills.

In terms of dialogues and networks, the Programme functions as the Secretariat for the BRICS-Young Scientists Forum (BRICS-YSF), supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Programme also is developing a network of IR institutions in Bangalore, Mysore, Manipal. Chennai, Pondicherry and Goa; together, they organise a "Tuesday Lecture Series" on IR.
